Welcome to HMKV's blog.

This blog currently documents a research trip to twelve former Soviet Republics for a new regional project of the Goethe-Institut (2015-17). Earlier entries document the "Afro-Tech and the Future of (Re-)Invention" research trip to Kenya, South Africa and Nigeria (10-25 April 2014, Anne Bergner and Inke Arns), and the INDUSTRIAL on Tour trip to five industrial cities in Poland (27 Sep - 9 Oct 2011, Thibaut de Ruyter, Inke Arns et al.)

The Afro-Tech team

Who are we? We are two people plus one: Inke Arns, Anne Bergner, and Jacob Lillemose. Jacob and Inke originally co-authored the idea. Inke and Anne will be travelling and doing the field-work in Lagos, Nairobi and Johannesburg (10 - 25 April 2014). Inke Arns is a curator and currently artistic director of HMKV (Dortmund), Anne Bergner is a designer based in Munich and a professor of design at Hochschule Coburg, and Jacob Lillemose is a curator based in Copenhagen.

HMKV's new research project Afro-Tech kicks off

Afro-Tech and the Future of (Re-)Invention is a research project which looks at the use, the adaptation and (re-)invention of (new) technologies in Kenya, South Africa and Nigeria. Today we applied for a visa at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Berlin. Our trip will take us to three African countries: Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa (10 - 25 April 2014).
